Nyepi, The Day of Silence

Nyepi, The Day of Silence

Om Swastiastu,

Rahajeng Nyangre Rahina Suci Nyepi ring semeton se-Dharma sami, dumugi ngeraris ngemanggihin kerahajengan ring jagate.

The Lila Bhawa community would like to wish a very well spent Day of Silence to those who celebrate this Balinese Hindu New Year.

Nyepi, also known as the Day of Silence, is the celebration of the Balinese Hindu New Year. This day of silence restricts individuals for the purpose of meditation and self-reflection. From 6 AM until 6 AM the next morning, one cannot work, light up fire, turn on electricity, as well as no entertainment and travelling. Many find themselves fasting, and limit themselves from talking throughout the day.

This way of celebration through meditation gives the opportunity for individuals to start the new year peacefully and cleansed from past sins.

Wherever you are celebrating Nyepi in this rounded planet, we hope this day of peace and forgiveness will bless us all for a more serene and content future.

Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti Om.
